Hash Function
|
Cryptographic hash function - In cryptography, a cryptographic hash function is a hash function with certain additional security properties to make it suitable for use as a primitive in various information security applications, such as authentication and message integrity. A hash function takes a long string (or message) of any length as input and produces a fixed length string as output, sometimes termed a message digest or a digital fingerprint.
Hash function - A hash function or hash algorithm is a function for summarizing or probabilistically identifying data. Typically this means one applies a mathematical formula to the data, producing a string which is probably more or less unique to that data.
Perfect hash function - Perfect hash functions are hash functions which guarantee to map different keys to different numbers.
N-Hash - In cryptography, N-Hash is a cryptographic hash function based on the FEAL round function, and is now considered insecure. It was proposed in 1990 by Miyaguchi et al; weaknesses were published the following year.

The avalanche effect is evident if, when an input is changed slightly (for example, flipping a single bit) the output changes significantly (eg, half the output bits flip). Canadian Avalanche Association - The Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) is a non-profit organization that promotes avalanche awareness and safety.
